Alvaro Barrington’s first solo show in France, “You don’t do it for the man, men never notice. You just do it for yourself, you’re the fucking coldest” fills all four floors of Thaddaeus Ropac’s Paris Marais gallery with a selection of new paintings. Incorporating non-traditional materials like yarn, carpet, and concrete framing, the show (named for a song by Drake) looks at subject matter like the artist’s personal culture and history and our current state of isolation, also shining a spotlight on Barrington’s ongoing interest in popular music.
