An exhibition of new multimedia paintings by Andro Wekua is on view at Gladstone 64 from September 14—October 22. Drawing from experiences both universal and personal, the Georgian artist employs expressive markings and rich hues while painting to express moments that are at once specific and ambiguous and familiar but strange. Opening up his compositions to the interpretation of the viewer, Wekua’s canvases are thickly laden with processes of layering, silk screening, and collage, which offer bits and pieces of recognizable imagery (like human limbs, flames, and faces) amid their otherwise abstract spaces.
