In Anh Duong’s first solo show in Switzerland, the artist’s presentation at Galerie Gmurzynska asks questions of self and identity in the present day through a series of over 20 portraits and self-portraits in oil paint. Titled “La Tentation d’existed. There is always Champagne in the Fridge,” Duong’s subjects (a unique blend of realism and caricature) are captured through an almost-voyeuristic lens, caught in the middle of intimate acts like bathing or nude, applying lipstick in a mirror. On view through September 30, Duong’s use of moody neutral tones and the subjects’ exaggerated eyes and pensive gaze will leave viewers intrigued, wondering what they might really be thinking.
