Anne Laure Sacriste: Wabi-Sabi

“Wabi-Sabi” is an exhibition of works by Anne Laure Sacriste currently on view at Fonds M—ARCO until July 16.

Sacriste transgresses the idea of “paradise” with her paintings, as the theme is often present in Western paintings. Most of these paintings focus on the Garden of Eden and the biblical reference to Adam and Eve, a place where paradise is ethereal and unreachable. But Sacriste defeats order and prefers artificial paradises, where they only exist after death. The artist often takes a motif from one painting from another to allow a unique image to unfold. Sacriste sees paintings as a space that one never reaches, as a place that one never takes and as a form of escapism.
