Associated Bodies

Half Gallery in New York City is exhibiting “Associated Bodies” by Ethan Cook. On view through June 10, this is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Its title is borrowed from Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s 1964 essay Eye and Mind, and its context takes inspiration from the general thesis that the body is the primary site of knowing the world. “My work begins and ends with the body,” Cook said. His paintings reinforce the notion that perception is interpretation. All the fabric included in Cook’s paintings are made on a loom in the back of his Brooklyn studio.
