Open at von Bartha through July 31 is a retrospective of the late artist Barry Flanagan, examining the evolution of his practice through works spanning the 1960s through the end of the early 2000s. Visitors at the gallery will bear witness to the experimental nature of the artist’s practice, used to explore key ideas that recurred throughout his years as an artist, like Pataphysics, theatricality, and Shamanism. Included on view are works like early sculptures made from material such as stone, sand, and cloth, the 1970 film bollards project, presented on TV monitors, and the 1993 bronze sculpture Figure in the trees.
