Perrotin gallery presents a solo exhibition by artist Bernard Frize: “How To Tell You…” on view through December 17. The 12 abstract, emotive and rainbow-hued works are poetic musings on destruction and degeneration. Frize allows the paint to bleed, smudge, and stain, twisting and forming together in a blurred state of transcendent forms and feelings. For over 40 years, Frize has created series paintings in the strictest of forms, void of self-expression (notably while blindfolded and only by the instruction of another individual). The artist’s new works continue to forgo the notion of painter as master, instead allowing the fortunate drips and wrinkles of paint, brush and canvas to reign supreme.
