Clare Rojas: Here We Go

At Jessica Silverman Gallery, Clare Rojas is presenting a solo exhibition show entitled “Here We Go” through May 22. For the San Francisco-based artist’s show, her dreamy abstract paintings appear for her first in-person exhibition in over a year—and mark the soft re-opening of the gallery since its renovation. The title of the show is one of the titles of the acrylic paintings included in the presentation, emblematic of the four corvid birds dancing. Its motif is derived from a deeper place within Rojas—her superstitious Peruvian heritage, her interest in animal neuroscience, and her concern for the environment—combined with colors like black, blue, and red that suggest contrasts in health, freedom, and life. In the show, works like My Dream Home nod to the craft of artists like Wayne Thiebaud and David Hockney, while Rainbow Path reflects San Francisco’s queer pride in reference to a contemporary yellow brick road.
