Para Site and Rockbund Art Museum are presenting in partnership the exhibition ”Curtain,” on view through July 25.

Presented across two venues in Hong Kong, the show includes existing and new commissioned works as well as site-specific pieces by 24 artists like Chantal Akerman, Xyza Cruz Bacani, Ho Sin Tung and Felix Gonzalez-Torres, “Curtain” offers a multi-layered experience that responds to the fluid concept of the ‘curtain’. Gathering artistic and conceptual references by drawing upon the mundane materiality of the curtain as a domestic object and its functions in various cultural contexts. It also requires participation from the audience through a series of crawling into, lifting, peeking through, and being guided by their senses.

Several pieces explore issues related to the visible and invisible in technology platforms and social structures today by raising critical questions about surveillance and its progression in social media, science, art, and politics. In other artworks, the theme not only serves as the physical partition in the exhibition space, but expands into the discussion of technology and the boundary of the screen. “Curtain” focuses on the dynamic between individual and collective forms of identity to represent a stream of past memories or the future.
