Damon Davis: Filling in The Cracks

East St. Louis born post-disciplinary artist Damon Davis presents sculptural and image-based works that are an investigation of masculinity, grief, and trauma. “Filling in The Cracks” on view at MOCAD through August 8, 2021.

In the show, the artist brings growth into the conversation to support the integration of self-compassion and resilience. The culmination of this is what Davis calls “narrative therapy,” which moves beyond hardship to visioning, healing, and imagining new ways of being. Davis embraces flaws and imperfections in his work, as he thematically explores possibility to develop perceptual agency, a phrase developed by Harvard ethnomusicologist Ingrid Monson, to describe the conscious focusing of sensory attention.
