The Whitney Museum of American Art commissioned Dave McKenzie to create a performance work titled Disturbing the View, in which the Jamaican artist looked to the work of window washers, taking it upon himself to obscure the view of windows around the building’s facades in various performances which took place earlier this spring. Now on view through October 4, McKenzie’s accompanying exhibition (“The Story I Tell Myself”) presents documented iterations of his performance art within the context of work by other artists who have informed his practice. In addition to images like stills from McKenzie’s film works Edward and Me and Drawing After Andy, visitors at The Whitney’s third-floor gallery will find work from names like Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Bruce Nauman, and Pope.L.
