David Maisel: Apocalyptic / Sublime

In “David Maisel: Apocalyptic / Sublime” at Haines Gallery, the San Francisco-based artist David Maisel used unique perspectives to make the invisible visible through reality-based photographs. Landscapes transformed by industrialization and urbanization continue to be central to his work, focused on themes of memory, excavation, transformation, and our role on Earth and in time. For four decades, Maisel’s work has chronicled the relationship between natural systems and the built environment. This online show, which balances documentary and aesthetic perspectives, debuts a selection of the artist’s well-known works from the past alongside a new series.
