Larry Ossei-Mensah has curated the group exhibition “Ghosts of Empires II,” which is on view at Ben Brown Fine Arts through October 22. Inspired by the text by the British-Ghanaian author and Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, Ghosts of Empire: Britain’s Legacies in the Modern World, Ossei-Mensah’s curatorial narrative searches the Black Atlantic and Asia Imperialist Trade routes to bring discourse from African and Asian-diasporic artists on topics of slavery, colonialism, migration, imperialist trade, and sovereignty in the context of the contemporary moment. The culmination of a two-part series follows an exhibition at the gallery’s Hong Kong space and features the work of 14 artists like Theaster Gates, Alvaro Barrington, Maia Cruz Palileo, and Zao Wou-Ki.
