On view at Various Small Fires is “Slim Margins,’’ an exhibition of works by Glen Wilson. Inspired by the broad movement of African Diasporic cultural heritage, Wilson creates a richly textured and forceful language and gives voice to these narratives and aesthetics that seem to lie outside the mainstream. In his folkloric tapestries, the artist uses patterns and rhythms of life to reclaim material and metaphor. Informed by the slim margin between past and present, knowledge and belief, the exhibition offers a synergy of content and meaning—works such as Fishermen á Morondova, Ebeji (Racing Pharoah’s Light) and Other Suns take the viewer to the edge of the ocean, as a conduit for memory and possibility.
