Galerie Chantal Crousel presents “Mesmerizing Mesh – Paper Leap and Resonating Habitat,” a solo exhibition by artist Haegue Yang. On view through December 3, the artist’s fourth solo show at the gallery continues a poetic examination of delicate materials such as venetian blinds and metallic bells, while introducing an exploration of hanji (classic handmade Korean paper derived from the mulberry tree). New paper collages and sculptures allude to the healing and purifying of shamanism and ritualistic folk traditions. Geometric and abstract patterns, as well as anthropomorphic motifs, reference the shunning of evil spirits and honoring of the deceased. Yang presents an undeniable bond between artist and shaman, both extending a hand into the understanding of the mystical unknown and the constant searching of the human soul.
