Heidelberg Project

The ongoing Heidelberg Project explores the ways in which Detroit is seeing, saying and feeling all things. The outdoor art environment was created to improve the lives of people in its immediate community, the McDougall Hunt neighborhood.

The artist behind it all, Tyree Guyton, believes that a community can re-develop and sustain itself, from the inside out, by embracing its diverse cultures and artistic attributes as the essential building blocks for a fulfilling and economically viable way of life. This summer, the project celebrates 35 years as it continuously renews the human spirit and has successfully translated into rebuilding the community.
