Koak’s "The Driver"

Koak: The Driver

Koak’s debut solo show in Asia is an exhibition titled “The Driver” at Perrotin’s Hong Kong gallery. In the presentation of new work (open through July 30) the San Francisco-based artist’s singular use of line and color is employed in compositions depicting female and feline subjects. Capturing in their assuredly sloping, gestural lines a range of emotions and behaviors, the artist has described her paintings as being “about archetypes of self that we have that are developed throughout our life or are internalized by experience.” Along with a suite of Koak’s painted canvases, (bearing titles like Dark Corridor and My Teeth) the presentation includes a new sculptural work, which sees an entanglement of felines composed from ferric nitrate patina on bronze.
