Gagosian debuts “Confidences,” a pairing of new works by renowned and innovative artist James Turrell. Ariel (2022)is a grand diamond-shaped artwork in vivid colors, and Jeu (2022) is an ellipse-shaped work in tones of blue. Displayed within a custom built space, this continuation of Turrell’s “Glass Series” uses modern LED technology while invoking the artist’s “Shallow Space Constructions” of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The current installations use planes of light moving against and into one another to produce perceptions of both flatness and infinite depth. The surreal artworks induce a reflective state of being and are reminiscent of paintings by artists Ad Reinhardt and Mark Rothko.
