Jessica Taylor Bellamy’s first solo exhibition with Anat Ebgi, “Endnotes for Sunshine” follows the artist’s creative exploration of the precarious nature of paradise—her home of Los Angeles—in the face of ecological turmoil. Informed by her own familial history and notions of home and landscape, Bellamy’s practice employs juxtaposing elements like reality and fantasy, image and text, and abstraction and figuration in composing engaging imagery born of unique techniques. Featured, viewers will find works like a video-sculpture hybrid titled In view, if not in reach and paintings made from a labor-intensive process that involves dissecting existing newspapers, photographing them, transferring them onto silkscreens, and then depicting them imagery with oil paint—like a composition titled A Slight Exaggeration, which tricks the eye with its painted assemblage of a dry palm leaf landscape, layered with a distorted newspaper and other unidentifiable imagery.
