GAVLAK Los Angeles is exhibiting “Back on the Inside,” the gallery’s first solo presentation of the Brooklyn-based artist José de Jesus Rodriguez. Four new paintings, each created this year, demonstrate Rodriguez’s artistic range—from line drawing to mimetic realism. The new pieces incorporate a variety of images that have become shorthand for Chicanx experience in American visual culture, emphasizing how the repetition of these symbols coalesces into ideology.
