A partnership between Sharjah Art Foundation and The Africa Institute brings the work of Kamala Ibrahim Ishag to Serpentines South Gallery for the artist’s first solo exhibition in London. Representing the expansive practice of the Sudanese artist, the show (open from October 7, 2022—January 29, 2023) features recent works and those dating as early as the 1960s. Employing her practice to consider the communal female experience and life’s cyclical flow, Ishag, who is one of the leading artists of the Crystalist movement, is best known for compositions depicting groups of women whose faces exist in crystalline spheres (like her recent Blues for the Martyrs) and works that divulge the intangible moments of life as a woman living in Sudan
