Titled “Fauna,” Galerie Maria Bernheim’s dual presentation of Kelly Akashi and Juan Antonio Olivares is open at the London location through July 24. This exploration of the relationship between the human and natural worlds presents new works by both artists. For the exhibition, Akashi continues to center the history of materials used, examining periods like the Studio Glass Movement to inform a series of cast shells and hands—which pose questions on an object’s emotional qualities. And from Olivares, an examination of microscopic versus cosmic lead the artist to a series of new graphite drawings, which are formed from scans of electron microscopic, animal, and telescopic imagery.
