Milan’s BUILDING gallery is presenting an exhibition by Leiko Ikemura from September 4—December 23, titled “Before Thunder, After Dark.” Featuring a selection of 50 artworks created between the 1980s—the present day, Frank Boehm has curated this survey of the Swiss Japanese artist’s practice, which fills the entirety of the gallery’s four floors. Encompassing Ikemura’s widespread oeuvre of mediums like drawing, watercolor, photography, paintings, ceramics, bronze, and glass, viewers will find works demonstrating her recurring exploration of subject matter, imagery, and motifs like the female figure, Japanese mythology, and the semi-abstract landscape, including some of the artist’s most significant historic pieces (presented to the public for the first time) and newer works made specially for the exhibition.
