Lorenz Spring

On view at Basel’s Galerie Carzaniga through August 14 is an exhibition of works by the Swiss artist Lorenz Spring. Growing up copying works of old masters, Spring began his career as a stone sculptor apprentice at the age of 20, just a few years before he began painting, in 1988. In the years since, the artist has transitioned from paintings on wood, to sculptural works, paintings on canvas, and other mediums. Spanning topics like materialism, vanity, and isolation, the exhibition features a series of abstract paintings and mixed media canvases, like the sanguine Eros and the soothing blue lines of Es schlägt Wellen X.
