The Los Angeles edition of SPRING/BREAK Art Show returns to Skylight Culver City for its fourth edition, which is open to the public from February 16—19, with a special preview day on February 15. Continuing an exploration of the topic “NAKED LUNCH” seen at the recent New York iteration, the 2023 fair welcomes more than 60 curator-led presentations expanding upon the Neo-Renaissance curatorial theme and also introducing the first-ever SINGLE/PALM Award for Best Curation.
Throughout the fair’s curator presentations, you’ll find exhibition concepts from the likes of Hannah Turpin, Fred Mann Projects, Paulina Bebecka, Galleri Urbane, Angelica Lorenzi + Hans Wendel, Laura Horne, Maria Garcia-Vasquez, Normal Royal, Claire Foussard, Dan Halm, and Nora Martin-Hall. Meanwhile, curated by the fair are spotlights of artists like dual presentations of Parker Bowling and Shane McKenzie and Eva Mantell with Joel Beck, as well as solo shows of artists including Lizzie Gill, Lena Christakis, Dasha Bazanova, Takashi Horizaki, and Ronan Day-Lewis.
Other programming highlights to look out for include the work of Brigitte Engler curated by the writer and filmmaker Chris Kraus; Cade Tompkins’s curation of a collection of movie posters associated with Fanya Foss, which all examine a painting by Alice Neel; and the curator Nora Lucia Boyd and tattoo artist Kevin Hennessy’s “tattoo glory hole,” which invites fairgoers to place various body parts through a cavity to leave with an unknown permanent tattoo of the artist’s choice. Those in attendance should also stay tuned for the announcement of the first-ever recipient of the SINGLE/PALM Award for Gest Curation, which is to be selected by the fair’s former curator Carlton Dewoody and a Curatorial Selection Committee.
