Luc Tuymans: Good Luck

On view at David Zwirner is “Good Luck,’’ Belgian artist Luc Tuymans’s first solo exhibition in Greater China. Famous for his distinctive style of painting, Tuyman’s work explores the power of images to both communicate and withhold and engages equally with questions of history and everyday subject matter. “Good Luck’’ features a series of recent paintings and a new single-channel animated video, bringing together historical and contemporary reference that reflect Tuyman’s current interests. In the exhibition, viewers will find a series of canvases inspired by Dutch imperialism alongside other paintings addressing history and the connection between past, present and future, such as Shenzhen (20119), which depicts an aerial view of the Chinese city. The exhibition also showcases Owl (2019), an animated work exploring the artist’s interest in the relationship between moving and static image.
