Larry Johnson

Made in L.A. 2020: a version

In collaboration with The Huntington Library, the Hammer Museum presents “Made in L.A. 2020: a version,’’ showcasing online interventions and off-site projects by Larry Johnson and Khalil Joseph. For the exhibition, Johnson created new site-specific works, on view on 5 commercial billboards, each combining specific texts and visuals. The billboards are poetic and humorous interventions into space and local geography, and reflect their cultural and quotidian environment. Installed in satellite sites around the city, Joseph’s installation of BLKNWS® is a conceptual news program combining art, reporting, entrepreneurship and cultural critique. The two-channel video presentations of the project are on view predominantly in Black-owned businesses, such as barbershops, cafés, healthcare facilities, and more.
