A monumental video work by Marco Brambilla, Heaven’s Gate takes viewers on a cinematic journey looking at the history of the Hollywood Dream Factory. Through a vertical landscape of screens, a history of the world has been constructed from a collage-like work featuring samples from famous Hollywood films, beginning with the creation of the world, and ending with a bang. Titled after Michael Cimino’s 1980 film, known for bankrupting United Artists with its production costs, the installation employs pop culture to create this satirical look at the saturated glamour of the Hollywood film industry.
