KÖNIG GALERIE in Seoul is showing “MIRRORS AND THINGS,” a solo exhibition by Matthias Weischer. The German painter has made 12 new paintings playing with illusion and perspective to display in the exhibition. Weischer’s works depict interior spaces filled with everyday objects, but the optical illusions combined with rough surfaces present a picture of a world clearly not fully accurately depicted but rather an incomplete observation. Weischer’s work represents that of the New Leipzig School of figurative painting, and its dialogue with real and depicted space is acknowledged to be emblematic of the larger theme in the German painting sphere. “MIRRORS AND THINGS” is on view through October 9.
