Ding Yi’s “Anomalous Galaxies” features 11 new and recent paintings from the artist’s ongoing “Appearance of Crosses” series. Open at Galería RGR until April 16, the featured series has been in ongoing development since the late 1980s, when the Chinese artist first began to reflect on his doubts surrounding urbanization. Progressing through the years in consideration of the evolution of civilization, viewers at Ding Yi’s first Latin American exhibition will see compositions characterized by meticulous precision and detail, wherein the artist has painted thousands of tiny dots, lines, and cross-like markings onto wood surfaces with freehand brushstrokes.
