Currently on view at MASSIMODECARLO in Milan is artist Maurizio Cattelan’s special project “YOU.” Cattelan is internationally recognized for his evocative, surrealistic installations and large-scale sculptures — stirring passionate debate. In a sincere invitation to the viewer, “YOU” is dramatically on display in a pristine marble bathroom. Within, is a hanging effigy of the powerful artist himself, holding a vibrant bouquet of flowers. The artist proposes a raw and dynamic exploration of life and death itself, illuminating the fragility of control and defeat. “YOU” welcomes a reflection on the experiential nature of humanity, and our universal instincts of devotion, solidarity, strength, and destruction.
