In May 2021, the 114-room ModernHaus SoHo opened, in place of the James hotel, hosting an extensive art collection. Featuring dozens of paintings and sculptures from some of the world’s foremost contemporary names—like Alexander Calder, Hans Hartung, George Condo, Harland Miller, Jean Dubuffet, Hans Hofmann, Nicolas Party, and KAWS—the space was inspired by the Bauhaus art movement. Director at Thor Equities Group, Jack J. Sitt worked behind the project to bring the development firm’s vision to life, working hand in hand with the stylist and interior designer Melissa Bowers to design the space. The hotel focuses on a minimalist perspective that allows the beauty and energy of the surrounding urban environment to take a prominent role, while showcasing its luxurious amenities, cozy rooms, and public spaces. On the second floor, Jumpin Jacks premiers with breakfast and cocktails, and on the 18th floor, the previous owner’s nightlife spot Jimmy returns. Of course, the 11,000 square feet of outdoor space with its stunning views and pool cannot be missed.
