Lorna Simpson

Off the Record

On view through September 27 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, “Off the Record” is a group exhibition challenging mainstream documentation. Conceived by the museum’s Associate Curator, Contemporary Art, Ashley James, the work of 13 artists like Lorna Simpson, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, and Tomashi Jackson confronts the stories told by historical, documentary, and state records through the mediums of print, painting, and photography, noting that these narratives are often manipulated and obscured, rarely demonstrating principles of objectivity and truth.
