In the exhibition “Consumer Reports,” the artist Pat Phillips navigates the realities and social dynamics of consumer America, looking at the state of our relationship to material goods. In order to highlight issues like the constantly-increasing wealth gap and the effects of our free market on the lower and middle classes, Phillips has executed a series of paintings that employ imagery like knock-off designer bags, trash on the streets, graffiti tags, police and looters, and a Disney reminiscent mouse, depicted wearing a pair of Jordan sneakers. “Consumer Reports” will remain open at Jeffrey Deitch’s New York gallery through January 8, 2022.
