Phyllida Barlow’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, “glimpse” features an installation of new large-scale works responding to Hauser & Wirth’s home in the historic Globe Mills complex. Known for her use of everyday materials like cardboard, plywood, fabric, and cement, the works in Barlow’s presentation (on view through May 8) were conceived around the distinctive architectural features of the famed buildings. Assembled on-site, the nature of the artist’s installation guides viewers by necessity around the commanding forms like choreography, squeezing through a narrow passageway here, or catching a glimpse of the structures below from the mezzanine. Barlow’s exhibition shares its title with an accompanying text by the artist, which gives a glimpse into a moment from her childhood.
