On view at Cardi Gallery in Milan through August 5 is “40 Balls” by Richard Serra. The exhibition presents 40 new drawings by the premier American artist, created instinctively within the restraints of his trademark black paintstick. Since 1971, Serra has refined his method of drawing into pieces that are urgent and foundational in their exploration of mark making. “Your eye is a muscle, you have to keep it in shape and the more you draw, the more you see,” said Serra. The prolific artist is known primarily for his substantial, site-specific sculptures in architectural, urban, and landscape settings; Serra promotes vibrant dialogue among site, work, and viewer.
