The inaugural exhibition at Gladstone’s Seoul gallery is Rirkrit Tiravanija’s first solo show in Korea—a presentation on view from August 31 through October 8 and curiously titled:
“SUBMIT
TO
THE
BLACK
COMPOST”
Described as “a floating, trans-national 21st century hermit,” the Thailand native holds an ethos of social engagement within his practice. Through his work, Tiravanija has mused on whether or not there’s any way to resist the throes of this time we live in, where autonomy and freedom are in danger at the hands of our capitalistic ways—a kind of trouble for which it seems nothing can be done but keep making art.
