Roni Horn: A Rat Surrendered Here

Roni Horn’s “A RAT SURRENDERED HERE” is on view in Renzo Piano Pavilion of Chateau la Coste in Provence, from July 1 until October 24.

The title of the exhibition is inspired by Emily Dickinson’s poem, which Horn incorporated in an aluminum sculpture from her “Key and Cue” series. The American artist pairs psychoanalytic concepts of ego-splitting with the uncanny. In Horn’s work, death is present both as a literal fact and as a philosophical inquiry into the unknowns of the human condition. The experiential qualities of light, shadow, and reflection in Horn’s work correspond to the mutability of identity and, with it, the unknowability of death. The exhibition includes new glass installations, along with sculpture, photography, and drawing.
