On view at Jeffrey Deitch is “Storm of Hope,’’ an exhibition of works by Robert Longo, altogether expressing his wish for a better future. Heightened by a sense of political urgency, Longo fuses Pop and Conceptual art to create iconic and provocative works, informed by the daily flow of images across our screens. In the exhibition, viewers will find a series of charcoal drawings, including the epic 3-part work portraying the 3 pillars of the US government—the Capitol, the Supreme Court and the White House. The artist considered his large-scale drawings as monuments that go beyond the flood of transitory imagery and points out the irony of creating monumental images out of dust. “Storm of Hope’’ also showcases Death Star—one of Longo’s best known works—a sculpture made from 40,000 30 bullets, which corresponds to the number of deaths in the US in 2017.
