FOG Design+Art 2022

Katy Donoghue

17 January 2022

Following a year of postponement, FOG Design+Art returns in full force this week to San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture, open to the public from January 20—23. A special ticketed preview gala held on January 19 will raise funds for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). The eighth edition of the fair—co-chaired by Wayee Chu and Ethan Beard—will welcome 45 international presenters and accompanying programming like the Innovators Luncheon and a series of talks.

Fairgoers will find presentations from a mix of new and returning names. Bay Area locals include Rebecca Camacho Presents, CULT Aimee Friberg Exhibitions, Friends Indeed, and pt. 2 Gallery. Hailing from New York are names like RYAN LEE, Talwar Gallery, David Zwirner, Marian Goodman Gallery, and R & Company. And from other locations across the globe are names like the Mexico City-based kurimanzutto, Nina Johnson of Miami, and London’s David Gill Gallery and White Cube.

Programming in line with the FOG’s focus on fostering conversations between the areas of art and design includes at the fair entrance, Stanlee Gatti’s special installation 21POP celebrating the locally developed Arion press. Outside of the main booths, look out for the roster of Talks, organized by Susan Swig and Wendell Sherrill, which will dive into topics ranging from NFTs to the city’s public murals and the future of museums—including names like Martine Gutierrez, Arleene Correa Valencia, Woody de Othello, and Zesty Meyers. And finally, Saturday’s much anticipated Innovators Luncheon will honor the musician Linda Ronstadt, in addition to raising funds for the SFMOMA.
