The Rencontres d’Arles presents “Sandra Rocha and Perrine Géliot,” forming the first duo of the Pernod Ricard Arts Mentorship program. Rocha (mentor) and Géliot (mentored) traveled to Chiapas, Mexico, where they drew parallels between the collapse of ancient Mayan civilization (widely believed to be caused by overpopulation) and crises in the contemporary Anthropocene. Their work documents the fragments and ruins of this rich civilization, at the site of which humans, plants, animals, and minerals still coexist in lush, overgrown harmony. The result is an exhibition of photography, video, sound, and sculpture which immerses the viewer in a lyrical, organic, and timeless experience.
