Jean-Marie Appriou and Marguerite Humeau have created an all-encompassing installation that stretches from the façade to the courtyard and across all of Lafayette Anticipations’ exhibition spaces. Titled “Surface Horizon,” the show, open through September 5, takes on the form of a new kind of garden, inspired by the unique structure of the gallery, which sees the thought-provoking placement of living fauna all around the space, coexisting alongside the pair’s manmade works. On view, themes of catastrophe, renewal, and otherworldly places are explored through Humeau’s study of weeds, which have brought viewers a series of sculptures and plant performances. Meanwhile, Appriou’s creations explore themes like metamorphosis and human and non-human relationships.
