The Tokyo EDITION Toranomon

The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon

In October 2020, The Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon opened its doors to the travelers of the world. Designed in partnership with renowned architect Kengo Kuma, the urban oasis brings together three visionaries—Marriott International, Ian Schrager, and Mori Trust—for a centrally-located hotel near the metro stations of Kamiyacho, Roppongi-Itchome, and Toranomon. Housed within a 591-foot-tall, 38-story mixed-use skyscraper, the Tokyo World Gate, the hotel occupies floors 31 through 36 for unobstructed views of the Tokyo skyline. With 206 rooms, restaurants, bars, and gathering areas, the hotel is also joined by a public space featuring over ten unique entertainment and working spaces. Its soaring public space was inspired by the central courtyard and surrounding structures of Buddhist temples, with a two-story lobby over 450 feet tall. And inside its restaurants, bars, and entertainment areas, hues of black, blue, jade, and gold were inspired by precious stones like sapphire, Japanese jade, and gold. Natural materials—including walnut, oak, bronze, travertine, glass, and silk—are juxtaposed with yamato-bari (a traditional Japanese wood cladding) and exotic greenery to create an eclectic mix.

Whitewaller recommends: Exploring the Sky Garden, located outside on The Jade Room + Garden Terrace. Floating above the city over 450 feet tall, guests can be immersed in over 500 plants, trees, and shrubs—including 25 different exotic species including Asian Bamboo, Cherry Laurels, and Birds of Paradise—and enjoy a small menu of sharing dishes and curated cocktails.
