Taking place within The Shed’s Level 2 Gallery is Tiona Nekkia McClodden’s exhibition “The Trace of an Implied Presence.” Conceived around the 1983 Dance Black America festival, McClodden’s focal point is a multichannel video installation inspired by the event, though the exhibition spans the living history of contemporary Black dance in our country at large. Alongside the video work, which features a showcase of four different dance forms, the artist has included elements like film portraits of important individuals, McClodden’s own take on a dance called the Philly Bop, and an installation of dance floors on which images and dance footage appears.
Coinciding with the exhibition is McClodden’s show “MASK / CONCEAL / CARRY,” on view at 52 Walker through October 8.
