Trevor Paglen: Bloom

Pace Gallery returns to its physical space with an exhibition of new works by American artist Trevor Paglen. “Bloom” explores the artist’s recurrent interest in artificial intelligence, the politics of images, facial recognition technologies and alternative futures. Paglen’s artistic practice examines the systems and technologies that shape our society, through a range of disciplines, such as investigative journalism, and scientific research. The exhibition features new sculptures, photographs, drawings, and digital components, related to corporate and state use of machine learning algorithms that monitor, extract value, and influence people’s lives. In “Bloom,” Paglen plays with the symbolic meaning of the “Vanitas” in traditional art, by bringing these symbolic objects into the present day and addressing new measures of mortality in the digital era.
