“Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech” is on view at The Brooklyn Museum through January 29, 2023. Originating at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, this iteration of the presentation (organized by Antwaun Sargent) honors the late designer and his many accomplishments in a dynamic showcase of music, design, and visual art. Of the many facets explored in this expansive survey, viewers can expect to find the show including clothing from his collections for Off-White and Louis Vuitton’s menswear oeuvres, furniture, music samples from his time as a DJ, and a highlight of his unexpectedly literal use of verbiage, among other things. And added especially for the Brooklyn Museum’s iteration are a selection of Abloh’s “social sculpture” (installations meant to act as a physical gathering space), recent and never- before seen works made prior to his passing, and an exploration of the designer’s relationship with New York City and his collaborations and influences there.
