Artist Yan Pei-Ming’s solo exhibition, “Wild Game” is on view through April 2 at MASSIMODECARLO in Milan. Known for his large-scale, monochromatic paintings with spirited brushstrokes, Pei-Ming draws viewers into expressive portraits of animals and haunting historical figures. Rich, dramatic landscapes of Milan and Shanghai are presented alongside equally rapturous works such as a tiger’s drive for substance, and a modern distillation of Francis Bacon’s 1954 Figure with Meat. In a prolific 30-year practice, Pei-Ming draws from his life in both the east and the west. Themes and symbols of strength, energy, reality, and imagination unite his works, giving traditional painting methods renewed purpose.
