Château La Coste presents “Water and Dreams,” an exhibition of paintings by the mixed-media visual artist Zhou Li on view through August. The two series featured, “La Bleu J’adoré” and “The Peach Garden,” explore the unity and fluid harmony to be found between nature and humankind. As nature is constrained by no permanent forms, so Zhou embodies this fusion in the image of a fish which swims freely by ignoring the all-pervading presence of water which is essential to its life. Li’s masterful intertwining of infinite concrete complexity with simple lines runs throughout the show; in Li’s words, “The concrete perception of each moment leads to a world, if insignificant but irreplaceable, and therefore sacred and eternal.”
