Anat Ebgi reopens its gallery and AE2 to the public with a two-person exhibition, featuring artists Alejandro Cardenas and An Te Liu. The exhibition presents a curated grouping of new sculptures by Toronto-based sculptor An Te Liu, alongside a suite of recent paintings by Los Angeles-based painter Alejandro Cardenas. In their respective practices, both artists borrow, transform and recontextualize the built and designed world with a sense of humor and playfulness that translates into something familiar and mythological at the same time. Cardenas’s newest “Field House” series portrays melancholic figures in a modernist glass country house, juxtaposing the iconic with the abstract. For this exhibition, Liu continues to borrow forms from consumer objects or packing materials and takes them beyond their utilitarian origins, imbuing them with a lyrical narrative.
