Sleeping Knight (2022) was a vision in colored pencil and acrylic on canvas, revealing two omnipotent hands gracefully covering a warrior with a diaphanous veil of mother nature’s tranquility. Artist Cheryl Pope’s masterpieces of needle-punched wool roving on cashmere caused quite a stir within the Monique Meloche Gallery room. Room with a View of Beverly Hills (2024) spoke of peaceful and romantic modern getaways with an azure ocean view; the hypnotic textures of a grassy mountainscape were collaged with mint green window drapes, fresh, raspberry stripe hotel sheets, and the shimmer of skin.

Also presented by Monique Meloche Gallery was an array of expressive oil paintings by visionary Jake Troyli. The Contest (2023) placed confident black protagonists with sculptural hair donning athletic wear in a poetic, dancer-like pose against jubilant blue skies on a pastoral, grassy hill. Bold, primary colors beamed from the subversive work as a symphonic ode to the many facets of modern masculinity.

MRS. gallery brought artist Emily Mullin’s heavenly installation to Felix Fair, rejoicing in her deft juxtaposition of ornate, handmade vases on colorful, avante-garde steel displays. As if a luminous still-life painting had come to life, a curvaceous, patterned vessel holding aromatic flowers emerged from a wine-hued abstract setting of charismatic femininity.

Represented by Tierra Del Sol gallery, kaleidoscopic, cartoon-like imagery of the city’s historic locales and architecture are embellished with snapshots of daily life. Under crystal blue skies and swaying palm trees, visitors bask in the glow of hotel pools, school buses journey through iconic architectural sites, and another day sets in the city of dreams.

Shown by Sea View gallery, a blaze of charcoal-infused smoke caressed the top of a towering weather vane with elusive danger, set fiercely against a slice of bright orange sky. Reminiscent of tornadoes thundering across eerily alluring skies, the painting evoked a haunting Wizard of Oz fantasia.
